Jeff got to the Driskill in time to hear Frank Pierson. He said Pierson spent a little time talking about Dog Day Afternoon and Cool Hand Luke, and, most interestingly, the day Karl Rove came to Hollywood post 9-11 to discuss "what was expected" from the film community. Heh.

If Florida State could hold ON TO the football, they'd be beating Miami right now...instead they're losing by 12. Pfft. I'm afraid to watch UT-OU later today.

I've just joined the Austin Film Society, which I've been meaning to do for ages. Just my luck that the upcoming events aren't must-attends for me. I've seen Genghis Blues (several times), and I've seen interviews with the filmmakers, so I won't go to that. And I've tried, God knows I've tried, but Jean-Luc Godard leaves me cold. SO I won't be seeing much of that series. And the Chinese martial arts series is almost over...

This is all good, though, because I need to catch up on mainstream moofies! I saw Lost in Translation last night. I thought it was a pretty good movie that lucked into a wonderful performance by Bill Murray, who brought more to his part than anyone could have expected. I don't know why I'm keeping my distance from the rivers of praise heaped upon it--I enjoyed it, I did. I have no complaint. I'm not compelled by it, for some reason. There were many beautiful moments in it, though, and I'd recommend it without a moment's hesitation.
